What is GPRS ??

GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) is a technology that allows the sending and receiving file faster than with the use of technology Circuit Switch file, or CSD. GPRS system can be used to transfer file (in the form of packet file) in connection with e-mail, file, picture (MMS) and browsing (browsing) the Internet.

on the type of mobile phone GSM and IS-136, although network GPRS is currently separated from GSM. In theory promises GPRS speed from 56 kbps to 115 kbps, thus allowing access to the Internet, sending multimedia file to a computer, notebook and handheld computers. However, in implementation, it depends on the following factors:
• Configuring and time slot allocation in the BTS level.
• Software is used.
• DPD features and mobile applications used. This explains why at certain moments and in certain locations GPRS access feels slow, even slower than access to the CSD has a speed of 9.6 kbps.

The main components of GPRS network are:

1. GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node): the gateway GPRS network link to the Internet network. Features of this component is as interface to the PDN (Public File Network), information routing, network screening, user screening, address mapping.
2. SGSN (Serving GPRS Support Node): the gateway connecting networks of BSS / BTS to the GPRS network. This component serves to bring packet file to MS, update clients to the HLR, the new customer registration.
3. PCU: the level of BSS components connecting the terminal to the GPRS network
GPRS uses packet switching communications system as a way to transmission file. Packet switching is a system where the file to be transmitted is divided into parts, small parts (packets) and transmitted, and changed back into the file. This system can mentransmisikan thousands of millions of packets per second even. Transmission made through the PLMN (Public Land Mobile Network) using the IP backbone. Because the canal allows for the use of transmission to other users simultaneously access the cost of GPRS, in theory, more expensive than the cost of access to the CSD.
